Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum

The Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum is a private facility, located on the shores of Lake Hood near Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport in Anchorage. Its main aim is to collect, preserve, and present Alaska’s rich aviation history, from 1897 to present, with special emphasis on the civilian pioneering era (1913-1950). On display are interpretive exhibits, newspaper accounts, photographs of pioneers and veterans, scale models, vintage clothing displays, and an array of aviation memorabilia. All these items provide a deep insight into the evolution of flight in Alaska. There also is an on-site hangar to house preserved and restored aircraft, most of them dating to World War I. The museum’s 100-seat theater presents such film programs as the World War II Aleutian Campaign history and pioneer Alaskan air services. Further, the store at the museum carries a variety of items, such as models, pins, clothing, stuffed animals, and jewelry.
